Plastic ball bearings and metal ball
bearings have two things in coMon-
they' re round and they roll. But the
sImilarity enDs there.
You can lube meTl ball bearings with
oil or grease±no problem² But that's
not trUe of plastIc ball bearings in the
cupolas of ³L and
³60´series tanks,
³113µseries
FOV's
and
³88AL
recovery vehicles.
Any grease or oil on

the plastic ball
bearings causes them to get so¶ and go
¸at¹ When crewmen try to rotate the
cuploa, it rattles and drags. Worse yet,
ºt»may not move at all. ¼his sends the
vehicle ½o ¾S ¿r repair.
³echs, be careÀÁ when you oil the
azimuth interlock or grease the ring
gear. ¾on't get any on the bearings.

Âube the interlock and gear lightly,
and have a clean, dry, lint´Ãee cloth
handy to wipe oÄ excess oil or greaseÅ
