The sight guards on an M±-series tank's M2 machIne gun take a lot of
punishment. BRnches, thrown rocks and other debris mash and bend the
guards²
A bent guard can't protect the sight³ When the sightS out of whack´ you
canµt hit the ta¶Get.
Before · repLace a bent sIght guard, though, ¸ t¶Y to st¶¹ighten it with a
special tooº ·'ve made Fom a 6»in piece of 1-In diameter bRss bar stock¼
Cham½r one end of the ba¶¾ then cut
a ¿/4-in wIde by 7/8-in deep

long channeº staÁtIng Fom the
chamfered end of the tool²
Âiºe the edges of the channel to ¶Emove any rough spots
and inseÁt the chamöEd end of the tooº into the sIght
guaÄD so that the channeº Åts over the sight.
Then´ gentºy tap the tool into the sight guard wIth a smaºº
hammer.
That slowºy stRightens the guard whILe stiºº protecting
the sight²
