Small Arm± .².
Dear EditoR,
A± a member of a direct ±upport unit²
I
know fir±t·hand that armoR³r±
and ±upporT unit± have trouble ±tayIng on top of the annual gauging
requirement± Fr ri´e±² machine gun±² and mortar±.
Many unit± wait until right beFre they leave Fr the field to turn their
weapon± in Fr gaugingµ ¶hat doe±n't leave u± time to get the job done.
So we worKed out a ±y±tem with our armoR³r6 that ±olve± the gauging
problem: We go to the arm± room± our±elve± in±tead of having weapon±
brought to u±. We maKe an appointment with the armoreR¸ taKe the
needed gauge±² and do the Job on the ±pot. ¶hi± ±ave± time Fr both
±upport and armo¹r±.
ºvery month we t» to gauge at lea±t 10 percent of the weapon± we
±upportµ At that R¼te½ within a year we¾ve given our±elve± a two-month
cu±hion in ca±e unit± go to the ¿eld.
So
I
6Ugge±t to armoR³rs that they get with their support and worK
out a 6Lmilar arR¼ngement.
HeÀ³Á another ±ugge6tlon: We ofTen ¿nd that arm6 room± aÀ³ ±hort
on cleaning ±upplle6Â We advi±e armorer6 to get a tool box and ±tock the
dR¼wer6 wIth pipe cleaner6² patche6Ã CÄP variou± bru±he±² and whatever
el±e i± needed. ¶hat ±tuff i6 cheapÅ ±o armorer6 ±hould keep plenty on
hand. ¶he tool box maKe6 it ea6y to organize the ±upplle±. NSN 5140Æ
