Belts
Keep drive belts tight. A quick and easy check is to use your thumb. Push down
mid-way between the two pulleys with your thumb. Deflection should be about
1
∕
2
inch—about the width of the belt—for each 12 inches of span length.
Air Cleaner
Clean off the air cleaner’s inlet before start-
ing the engine. The engine won’t get much air
if the air cleaner is choked with snow or ice.
In a snow or sleet storm, shield the inlet
with a piece of scrap tarp to keep snow or
sleet out.
Keep these
cold weather
tips
handy when
the temperature
drops and the
ground turns
hard.
Take a look at
the scoop loader’s
hoses. Hoses rot,
harden or crack
with age.
