t’s OK to use the free flow (gravity
feed) valve for bulk fuel transfer from
your M978 tanker, operators. But for
your sake, remember to turn the valve
off when you’re finished.
Leave the valve on and you’ll end up
spilling quite a few gallons of fuel on
the road when you head up an incline—
like just about everything you have left
in your tanker. When that happens,

Do not use ether after the engine is up to speed and

Never press the ether

engine is cranking.
Do not press the starter
switch for longer than 30
seconds. If the engine
doesn’t start within 30
seconds, let go of the
switch and wait two
minutes before trying
again. That keeps the
starter from overheating.
