AN/GRC-103 Radio Set…
h
ooking up cables to the back of
the AN/GRC-103 radio set’s T-983
transmitter is a lot like playing blind
-man’s buff. You’re blindfolded and
you have to feel your way to identi-
fy the right connectors.
The biggest hookup problems are
connecting the order wire (OW) and
the power cable.
Get either of these wrong and
you could fry a connector or dam-
age the amplifier panel.
Often you make these connec-
tions while balancing the radio with
your body, steadying it with one
hand, and reaching back to make a
blind connection with the other.
The secret to a good connection
is to identify the connectors with
your hand first. Reach behind the
radio and find the triangle of recep-
tacles. The one on the lower left
(as your hand feels it) is the OW
receptacle.
Below this triangle of receptacles
is a fourth receptacle all by itself.
That’s the 115 VAC outlet where
your power cable goes.
Now grab the correct cable.
They’re clearly labeled with a yel-
low band. Take the correct cable to
the correct receptacle.
By identifying these receptacles
with your hand first, it will be like
taking your “blindfold” off.
