Since the dispenser fres flares in the desert, it’s important to check it For small
rocks and sand From aircraFt rotor wash.
IF rocks and sand get into
the payload module and Foul
up the fring contacts and
the fring springs, the flares
will not fre. And there’s no
onboard digital display in the
pilot or copilot area to detect a
misfred flare.
The M130 has a photo-
sensor to determine iF a flare
is launched, but Fails to ignite.
IF the photo-sensor lens is
blocked by sand or dust, the
dispenser may inadvertently
fre up to two more flares.
To avoid misfres in the
desert, make sure you clean
your chaFF/flare dispenser like
the TM says and more oFten iF
necessary.
