Dear Editor,
In PS 731 (Oct 13), Terry Blount suggested that repairmen for howitzers
and mortars keep a personal copy of TM 9-1000-202-14,
Evaluation of
Cannon Tubes.
That way repairmen will never have to guess whether a cannon
tube is still usable or should be condemned.
Let me offer one further suggestion. Most shops support only a few of the
many mortars or howitzers listed in the TM. Instead of lugging around the
entire TM, just print out the sections that cover the cannons you support.
Staple them together, put them in a folder and store them with your borescope.

Editor’s note:
Excellent idea, Karl. EM 0065, which covers
most small arms, has the TM, as does LOGSA’s ETM website:
It’s also a good idea to sign up for automatic email notiFcations. That way,
you’ll be notiFed if the TM changes so you can reprint the section you need.

your pub in ETMs Online.
“CROWS
equipment stays with CROWS”
seems like a pretty obvious statement.
But unFortunately that hasn’t been the case.
Units deploying back From theater are taking the CROWS tool bag, the weapons
adapter kit and the boresight kit with them. Without those items, the new unit can’t
operate CROWS. And it costs $23K to replace the tool bag and two kits. That’s a
pretty heFty bill to leave your replacements.
When it’s time to go home, leave your CROWS equipment with CROWS. That’s
where it belongs and it saves the Army maintenance dollars.
