EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION AND DATA
EQUIPMENT CHARACTERISTICS, CAPABILITIES, AND FEATURES
a.
Equipment Characteristics.
The HEWATT has a 66,700 lb. (30,282 kg) GVWR when fully loaded with firefighting agents, equipment and
two (2) fully equipped crew members.
The HEWATT is equipped with equipment necessary to extinguish brush,
wildland, and structural fires at isolated military installations and to support TFFT (Tactical Fire Fighting Truck)
operations.
The M1158 is built on a modified M985 chassis.
The modifications made to the M985 chassis are:
1.
A mounting bracket has been added on the front of the cab for bumper turret.
2.
Personnel cab roof has been modified to accept lightbars.
3.
Rear springs have been updated for 66,700 lbs. (30,282 kg) GVWR, refer to M985 suspension.
4.
Air compressor and power steering unit have been swapped to allow room for PTO drive system.
5.
Fuel tank has been lowered for water tank mounting.
6.
Cab steps were increased in size to allow for safer cab access.
7.
Driver side air supply port has been relocated left of pump operator’s panel.
b.
Capabilities.
1.
The HEWATT is equipped with equipment necessary to extinguish brush, wildland, and structural fires at
isolated military installations and to support TFFT operations.
2.
The HEWATT is capable of operating in temperatures from -25 to 120°F (-32 to 49°C).
c.
Features.
1.
A water pump/foam system control panel is located inside the personnel cab, which provides the
following controls:
Tank-to-pump, pump primer, pump cooler, foam system, under truck nozzles,
windshield deluge, foam level gauge, water level gauge, radio controls, deck lighting, scene lighting,
emergency warning lighting controls, and water pump control system with master gauges.
2.
A pump operator’s panel is located outside the cab on the driver side of the vehicle and provides the
following controls: Tank-to-pump, pump cooler, foam system, panel lights, foam flush, pump primer,
direct tank fill, hose reel, tank drain, tank fill/re-circulating line valve, drive side auxiliary inlet valve, drive
side auxiliary discharge valve, passenger side auxiliary inlet valve, passenger side auxiliary discharge
valve, foam level gauge, water tank gauge, thermal relief indicator water pump control system with
master gauges, and radio headset jack.
3.
A 24-VDC electric system is provided to power the firefighting system.
4.
A winterization package is provided to allow operation of pump and foam system in temperature down to
-25°F (-32°C).
