2-1. KNOW YOUR CONTROLS AND INDICATORS
Before you attempt to operate your equipment, be sure you are familiar with the
location and function of all controls and indicators. This section describes the
location and function of all controls and indicators.
WARNIN G
Hearing protection is required for driver, co-driver, and mechanic
when engine is running. Noise levels produced by this vehicle
exceed 85 dB, which may cause injury to personnel.
NOTE
Ž Except where specifically noted, the controls and indicators in this
section are generally applicable to all vehicles covered in this
manual.
Ž In this manual, the term “left” indicates the driver side of the
vehicle. The term ‘right” indicates the opposite, or crew side of the
vehicle.

2-3. PREPARATION FOR USE
When a vehicle is received by the using organization, it is the responsibility of the
officer-in-charge to determine whether it has been properly prepared for service
by the supplier. It is also the responsibility of the officer-in-charge to be sure the
vehicle is in condition to perform its functions. Maintenance personnel will
provide any additional service required to bring the vehicle to operating stand-
ards. Before operating the vehicle, the operator must become familiar with the
vehicle controls and indicators as described in this chapter.
