ARMY PETROLEUM, OIL, AND LUBRICANTS (POL)
Proper disposal of hazardous waste material is vital to protecting the environment and providing a safe
work environment. Materials such as batteries, oils, and antifreeze must be disposed of in a safe and
efficient manner.
The following references are provided as a means to ensure that proper disposal methods are followed:
Waste Disposal Instructions (MEIS/MIDI CD ROM)
National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA)
Clean Air Act (CCA)
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA)
Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA)
The disposal of Army Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) products are affected by some of the above
regulations. State regulations also may apply to POL. If you are unsure of which legislation affects
you, contact state and local agencies for regulations regarding proper disposal of Army POL.
DESTRUCTION OF ARMY MATERIAL TO PREVENT ENEMY USE
Procedures for destruction of Army material to prevent enemy use can be found in TM 750-244-6,
Procedures for Destruction of Tank-Automotive Equipment to Prevent Enemy Use.
QUALITY OF MATERIAL
Material used for replacement, repair, or modification must meet the requirements of this manual. If
quality of material requirements are not stated in this manual, the material must meet the
requirements of the drawings, standards, specifications, or approved engineering change proposals
applicable to the subject equipment.
SAFETY, CARE, AND HANDLING
Observe all warnings, cautions, and notes prior to operating and servicing equipment. If uncertain how
to perform any maintenance procedure, ask your supervisor for assistance.
