2-102. DEFINITION OF ADMINISTRA -
TIVE STORAGE.
The placement of equip-
ment in administrative storage can be for
short periods of time when: (1) An organiza-
tion lacks operating funds, personnel, other
resources, or normal usage of its organic
materiel, and (2) materiel which exceeds th e
capability of the owning organization t o
operate or maintain must be retained by tha t
organization for contingency or other cogen t
reasons .
Installation or organization commanders ma y
authorize the administrative storage of their
materiel within guidance furnished b y
MACOM commanders and AR 750-1. Re -
covery vehicles should be ready for us e
within the time factors as determined by th e
directing authority .
During the storage period appropriate mainte-
nance records will be kept .

Scope.
The requirements specified here -
in are necessary to maintain the M578 Re-
covery Vehicle in administrative storage i n
such a way as to achieve the maximum readi-
ness condition .
b.
General .
(1)
Except as indicated in the Mainte -
nance Services and Inspection and Correc-
tions of Shortcomings and Deficiencies para-
graphs, equipment that is placed in admini-
strative storage should be capable of bein g
readied to perform its mission within a
24-hour period or as otherwise prescribed by
the approving authority. Before equipment i s
placed in administrative storage, current main-
tenance services, shortcomings, and deficien -
cies should be corrected, and all modificatio n
work orders (MWOS) should be applied .

Report equipment in administrativ e
storage in Materiel Readiness and Unit Readi-
ness reports as prescribed for all reportabl e
equipment. See AR 220-1 .

series manuals or applicable technical manuals.
In case of conflict in lubrication instructions, the
applicable technical manual will apply.

Records and reports to be maintain -

equipment in use .

Ten percent variance is acceptabl e
on time running hours, or mileage used t o
determine maintenance actions required .

Storage Site .
(1)
Select the best available site for ad-
ministrative storage. Separate stored equip -
ment from equipment in use. Conspicuousl y
mark the area “Administrative Storage” .
(2)
Covered space is preferred. Whe n
sufficient covered space for all Recovery
Vehicles to be stored is not available, selec t
an open site .
(3)
Open sites should be improved hard -
stand, if available. Unimproved sites shoul d
be firm, well-drained, and kept free of ex-
cessive vegetation .

Storage Plan .
(1)
Store equipment so as to provid e
maximum protection from the elements an d
to provide access for inspection, mainte-
nance, and exercise. Anticipate removal or
deployment problems and take suitable pre -
cautions .
(2)
Take into account environmenta l
conditions, such as extreme heat or cold ;
high humidity; blowing sand, dust, or loos e
debris; soft ground; mud; heavy snows ;
earthquakes; or combinations thereof an d
take adequate precautions .
