Vehicle Lighting.
The dome lights ar e
a standard combination blackout and servic e
light. Illumination of the flasher signal head-
light is indicated by the indicator lamp in th e
cab and used for warning oncoming traffi c
and personnel during travel and recovery
operations. The two floodlights are controlle d
by the floodlight switch in the cab and use d
for operation during night/darkness recover y
operations .

Wiring Harnesses and Leads.
Vehicl e
components are connected with single lead s
or multiple lead wiring harnesses. All wiring is
standard ordnance waterproof cable. Connec -
tions are made by waterproof rubber, singl e
wire quick-disconnectors, plug-receptacle con -
nectors, or solderless waterproof termi -
nals .

Hydraulic Power System .

Hydraulic Oil Reservoir.
The hydrau -
lic oil reservoir provides reserve capacity an d
ensures a steady supply of hydraulic oil to th e
pumps. The reservoir has a capacity of 16 5
gal. (625 l) .

Hydraulic Pumps.
Two hydrauli c
pumps provide hydraulic pressure when th e
engine is operating and the magnetic clutch is
engaged to power all hydraulic components .
1-12. ARMAMENT.
Armament for th e
M578 Recovery Vehicle consists of an M 2
Browning .50 caliber machine gun, which i s
mounted next to the rigger/gunner cupola ,
and is the prime fire power support .

General.
The M578 Recovery Vehi -
cle has a closed-centered type hydraulic sys -
tem. Hydraulic pressure is present and the di-
rectional control valves are activated by th e
control levers. Hydraulic pressure is delivere d
to the subsystem that is controlled by the di-
rectional control valve .
