ome armorers are using too much muscle when they install the rail kit on the
M240B machine gun. As a result, the operating rod binds in the gas tube.
Here’s how to stay out of that bind:
Put a drop of sealing compound, NSN 8030-01-499-3589, on the threads of the
two long screws for the rail body to help them stay tight.
Install the two screws and tighten them with your Fngers. Then use a

wrench to tighten the front screw no more than three complete turns. Tighten the rear

turn.
±unction test the M240B. If the op rod binds, back off both

Don’t Over-tighten Rails
Don’t overtighten!
when you
turn in an
aiming circle,
remember to
include these
items…
but the
army is not
buying new
ones.
but…
why!?
why
do you
have
to go?
it’s for the
best! I’m going
to
help
other
army units.
I don’t understand!
don’t go!
the army is
running short
of working
aiming circles.
why are they
running out?
because there is an
increasing demand for
aiming circles!
let me
explain.
so the only way to meet
the increasing demand is
to repair ones that don’t
work and get them back
to the field.
that’s why units
need to turn in
unserviceable aiming
circles immediately.
