A fuel smell means there’s probably
a
leak
somewhere
in
the
engine
compartment. Any fuel leak—Class
I, II or III—needs your mechanic’s
attention right now.
Mechanics, one area to eyeball for
leaks is where the fuel return lines are
mounted on top of the engine.
Those
lines
deteriorate
from
long-term storage and engine heat.
Eventually, they leak. If a line feels
wet, or if its protective cover is worn
off, the line is shot. Replace it with

below the fuel injector nozzle. If it’s
worn out, replace it with NSN 5330-
