are about races to
the finish. But preventive maintenance around your aircraft is neither a 100-yd dash nor a
marathon—it is a life-long requirement.
Take it easy when removing parts like cowlings, pylons or covers. Sometimes connectors are
attached to different parts of the airframe. When you hastily remove a cowling or a cover with
wiring attached, not only will the cover come off, so will the wiring. Slow down and remove
parts and components step by step like the TMs say.
When doors, covers and airframe parts are removed from your aircraft, make sure they’re not
tossed to the ground or into the wind, either. Just because they are made of strong lightweight
material like fiberglass, sheet metal or composites doesn’t mean they won’t be damaged if you
carelessly handle them. Don’t create expensive repairs by doing sloppy maintenance.
Just in case you forget, “No Step” still means no step, whether covers, parts and pylons are
on the ground or on the aircraft. They’ll still break under your weight.
