This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the
Department of Defense.

SCOPE
1.1
Scope.
This specification covers 7 types of 12-cylinder, 90
°
V-type, air-cooled,
4 stroke-cycle, turbo-supercharged, internal-combustion, compression-ignition (diesel) engines
for use in military vehicles (see 6.1).
1.2
Classification.
This engine is classified in seven configurations as follows (see 6.2):
Type I
- AVDS1790-2 (Army Drawing 8725265) furnished with
air-cooled generator and associated accessory drive.
Type II
- AVDS1790-2A (Army Drawing 10912450) furnished
with air-cooled generator and associated accessory drive.
Type III
- AVDS1790-2C (Army Drawing 11682700).
Furnished with oil-cooled alternator and associated
accessory drive.
Type IV
- AVDS1790-2D (Army Drawing 11684000) furnished
with air-cooled generator and associated accessory drive.
