UNCOUPLING GOOSENECK FROM TOWING VEHICLE - Continued
WARNING
Extreme caution should be taken when releasing the fifth wheel lock handles. Observers
must stand clear of the towing vehicle rear wheels before operator moves vehicle. Failure
to comply may result in death or injury to personnel. Seek medical attention in the event of
an injury.
8.
Unlock fifth wheel by pulling secondary lock handle (Figure 18, Item 2) out and lifting up on handle until it
locks in place. Then pull primary lock handle (Figure 18, Item 1) out and lift up until it also locks in place.

NOTE
If the kingpin does not clear the rear bumper of the towing vehicle, it may momentarily be
lifted out of the gooseneck kingpin recess to complete the uncoupling procedure.
9.
Slowly drive towing vehicle forward from under gooseneck kingpin while ensuring kingpin clears fifth wheel
and rear bumper of towing vehicle.
