5. Remove housing cover from steering gear

assembly, Fig. 8. Use a soft hammer and tap on

end of the output shaft to loosen cover. The

output shaft and gear assembly may be removed

with the cover. Observe the timing mark on the

rack, which is located on the center tooth of the

piston. This mark should be in alignment with the

timing mark on the pinion gear when reassembly

is performed.
