Install new O-ring (17) on relief valve plunger (16).

39.

Install relief valve plunger (16) in bearing cap (6).

CAUTION

Wrap splines on output shaft with paper or tape. Failure to do so

may result in damage to seal during assembly.

40.

Install output shaft and gear (22) in steering gear housing (11). Ensure alignment marks (28) of

output shaft and gear (22) are aligned with mark (27) on rack gear (23) of piston (12).

41.

Install new O-ring (21) on output shaft cover (20).

42.

Align marks on output shaft cover (20) and steering gear housing (11) and install shaft cover (20)

on steering gear housing (11) with eight new lockwashers (18) and screws (19). Tighten screws (19)

85-95 lb-ft (116-129 N•m).

FOLLOW-ON TASKS:

Install steering gear (para. 4-118).

Fill steering gear to proper oil level (LO 9-2320-272-12).

Perform final plunger adjustments (para. 4-124).
