SPECIAL TOOLS.
Special tools for organizational maintenance are listed in TM 9-2320-279-20P
which is the authority for requisitioning. The Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC) (Appendix B) lists
special tools needed for the various maintenance tasks.

TEST EQUIPMENT.
The M977 series vehicles are
equipped with a connector for Simplified Test Equipment/
Internal Combustion Engine (STE/ICE). The STE/ICE
connector (1, fig. 2-1) is located on the passenger side of the
cab.

Repair parts authorized for use at organizational level are listed and illustrated in
TM 9-2320-279-20P.

2-6. UNPACKING AND DEPROCESSING.
a.
Upon receipt of new vehicle, the receiving organization must see if it has been properly prepared for
service and is in good condition. Inspect all assemblies, subassemblies, and accessories to be sure they are
in proper working order (TM 9-2320-279-10). Secure, clean, and correctly adjust and/or lubricate as needed
(LO 9-2320-279-12). Check all tools and equipment to be sure every item is there, in good condition, clean,
and properly mounted or stowed (TM 9-2320-279-10).
b.
Read “Processing and Deprocessing Record of Shipping, Storage, and Issue of Vehicles and Spare
Engines.” tag (DD Form 1397) and follow all precautions checked. This tag should be attached to the
steering wheel, shifting lever, or ENGINE START switch.

HAND RECEIPT MANUAL AND INVENTORY OF EQUIPMENT.
When a new vehicle is first
received by the using organization, it is necessary to inventory the vehicle equipment. For detailed
procedures, refer to Hand Receipt Manual, TM 9-2320-279-10-HR.
2-8. SERVICE BEFORE OPERATION.
a. General.
(1)
Upon receipt of new, used, or reconditioned vehicle, the receiving organization must see if it has
been properly prepared for service and is in good condition. Inspect all assemblies, subassemblies and
accessories to be sure they are in proper working order. Secure, clean, and correctly adjust and/or lubricate
as needed. Check all tools and equipment to be sure every item is there, in good condition, clean, and
properly mounted or stowed (TM 9-2320-279-10).
