Equipment Condition
• Rear steps raised (TM 9-2320-280-10).
• Litter stowage door open (TM 9-2320-280-10).
General Safety Instructions
Rear steps must be raised before disconnecting
retractor lever from rear steps.
WARNING
Rear steps must be raised before disconnecting retractor lever
from rear steps. Failure to do this may cause injury to personnel
and damage to equipment.
NOTE
The procedure for replacing left and right retaining cables are
basically the same. This procedure covers the left retaining cable.
a. Removal
1.
Remove locknut (6), washer (7), socket head screw (11), large washer (10), retaining cable (3), and
retractor lever (9) from rear steps (8). Discard locknut (6).
2.
Lower rear steps (TM 9-2320-280-10).
3.
Remove locknut (1), washer (2), socket head screw (5), large washer (4), and retaining cable (3) from
body (12). Discard locknut (1).

b. Installation
1.
Install retaining cable (3) on body (12) with large washer (4), socket head screw (5), washer (2), and
locknut (1). Tighten screw (5) to 37 lb-ft (50 N
•
m).
2.
Raise rear steps (TM 9-2320-280-10).
3.
Install retractor lever (9) and retaining cable (3) on rear steps (8) with large washer (10), socket
head screw (11), washer (7), and locknut (6). Tighten screw (11) to 31 lb-ft (42 N
•
m).
