ALUMINUM CASTINGS
CAUTION
Heat distortion during welding will damage aluminum castings. Do not attempt to repair
aluminum castings by welding.

MAGNESIUM CASTINGS
WARNING
Magnesium may catch on fire if welded on or exposed to high temperatures. Do not weld on
magnesium castings or expose them to high temperatures.

Welding on fan magnesium castings is not authorized. Do not attempt to weld on these parts.
WARNING
Fine particles of magnesium can catch fire and burn you. Be very careful when filing or
grinding on magnesium. Use grinding equipment marked FOR MAGNESIUM GRINDING
ONLY. Keep a Class D fire extinguisher nearby.
2.
You must observe the following safety precautions when filing or grinding on magnesium:
a.
Use grinding equipment marked FOR MAGNESIUM GRINDING ONLY.
b.
Use a suitable coolant when grinding magnesium to keep temperatures below ignition point.
c.
Keep tools used on magnesium sharp.
WARNING
Water and foam-type fire extinguishers will cause magnesium fires to flare up. Use a Class D
fire extinguisher or a sodium chloride base dry powder to fight magnesium fires.

Keep a Class D fire extinguisher nearby for use on magnesium fires.
