Some M109A3 howitzers mount
cam lever on a shaft and ball bear-
ing. Some M109A3 and all M109A2
vehicles mount cam lever on a
shouldered bolt and roller.
Some M109A3 howitzers have equil-
ibration manifold assembly with inte-
gral check valves. Some M109A3
and all M109A2 howitzers have
equilibration manifold assemblies
tapped and threaded to connect to
separate check valves.
M109A4/M109A5 howitzers have
eliminated internal hydraulic filter of
M109A2/M109A3 howitzers, replac-
ing it with two external filters.
Two different types of direct current
motors are used on vehicles. The
different types of direct current mo-
tors are interchangeable, but individ-
ual parts are not interchangeable
between direct current motors.
Some howitzers have modified equi-
librated elevation mechanism as-
semblies with new internal seals
and bearings.
Segment ring for vehicles with 3
contact arm assemblies have more
attaching hardware than segment
ring on vehicles having 5 contact
arm assemblies. Also, vehicles with
3 contact arm assemblies have a
segment ring cover. Vehicles with 5
contact arm assemblies have no
segment ring cover.
