WARNING
EXHAUST GASES CAN BE DEADLY
Exposure to exhaust gases produces symptoms of headache, dizziness, loss of muscu-
lar control, apparent drowsiness, and coma.
Permanent brain damage or death can
result from severe exposure.
Carbon monoxide occurs in the exhaust fumes of internal combustion engines, and be-
comes dangerously concentrated under conditions of inadequate ventilation. The fol-
lowing precautions must be observed to insure the safety of personnel whenever en-
gine is operated.
Do not operate engine in an enclosed area unless it is adequately ventilated.
Be alert at all times during engine operation for exhaust odors and exposure symp-
toms.
If either are present, immediately ventilate work area. If symptoms persist,
remove affected personnel from area and treat as follows: expose to fresh air; keep
warm; do not permit physical exercise; if necessary, administer artificial respiration.
If exposed, seek prompt medical attention for possible delayed onset of acute lung
congestion. Administer oxygen if available.
The best defense against exhaust gas poisoning is adequate ventilation,
WARNING
SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURY TO PERSONNEL MAY RESULT
IF THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT COMPLIED WITH.
Dry cleaning solvent is flammable.
Do not use near an open flame. Keep a fire ex-
tinguisher nearby when solvent is used.
Use only in well-ventilated places. Failure
to do this may result in injury to personnel and damage to equipment.
Do not use more than 30 psi of air pressure for drying parts. Eye shields must be
worn when using compressed air.
Eye injury can occur if eye shields are not used.
Do not use dip tank unless you are experienced at it. Chemicals in dip tank can
cause serious burns to personnel.
Do not use less than six universal mounting arms to support cylinder block on main-
tenance stand.
Using less than six arms may cause cylinder block to fall, causing
damage to equipment and injury to personnel.
Use goggles, rubber gloves, and rubber apron when cleaning parts in carbon remov-
ing compound.
Make sure there is enough ventilation. Be careful not to breathe in
fumes or let compound touch skin.
If compound is splashed on skin, flush with water
and wash with alcohol, preferably 2 to 3 percent.
Carbon removing solvent is flammable.
Do not use near an open flame. Keep a fire
extinguisher nearby when solvent is used.
Use only in well-ventilated places. Fail-
ure to do this may result in injury to personnel and damage to equipment.
Face shields and gloves must be worn when using heated cleaning compound. Work
only in well-ventilated area. Do not breathe in steam. Failure to use proper pre-
cautions may result in injury to personnel.
