CLEAN AIR SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING

INITIAL SETUP:
Tools:
General mechanic’s tool kit (item 121, WP 0176)
Personnel Required:
Track Vehicle Repairer (2) 63H10
Equipment Conditions:
Engine installed in vehicle or ground hop.
MALFUNCTION 1:
Abnormal operation of dust detector system (power pack warning lamp and dust detector
warning lamps ON, with pressure switch plunger(s) visible).
PROBABLE CAUSE
CORRECTIVE ACTION
a. Restricted filter strip.
(1) Service dust detector filter strip, refer to
pertinent vehicle technical manual.
b. Loose or defective hose clamps on
turbosupercharger air inlet hose.
(1) Repair or replace as necessary.
c. Defective or missing seals at
turbosupercharger air inlet elbow or air
cleaner air outlet elbow.
(1) Repair or replace as necessary.
d. Restricted orifices in turbosupercharger
compressor housing and cover.
(1) Remove dust detector filter strip cover.
Clean all orifices and cavities.
Service
filter strip.
e. Defective pressure switch.
(1) Remove pressure switch (WP 0082,
Turbosupercharger Dust Detector System
Replacement).
Perform pressure switch
operational check.
PROCEDURE
OBSERVATION
ANALYSIS
Install an adapter in the
bottom (low pressure)
opening in pressure switch.
Pressure switch plunger pops up.
Switch is operational.
Suck on connector with the
mouth.
Pressure switch plunger does not
pop up.
Switch needs to be
replaced.
Remove
adapter and replace
switch.
No continuity.
Switch defective.
Replace pressure switch.
Using a voltmeter, check
for continuity across the
two pressure switch
connector pins.
There is continuity.
Switch is operational.
