Dear Editor,
Removing the rear brake drum on
M1009 CUCV's can be tough when
rust freezes it to the axle Fange.
Here's how we get the drum o±:
Clean ruSt and di² o± the drum
and Fange with a wire brush³
´ile o± any buµs on the
Fange.
¶qui² penetrating oil, N¶N
6850-00·973¸9091, where the
¹rum slI¹es over the Fange³ GIve
it a few minutes to soaK ºn.
Put a Bar beTeen the drum
and backing plate and carefuLly
p» out While you gently pul¼ on
the opposite side of the drum, so
you don½t bend the backing plate³

At the same time, your helper
wIl¼ use a ¾¸in punch an¹ 1¸lb
hammer to tap on the drum
between the studs³

A
leaky radiator hose can rain on
any mechanic's parade. Leaks can be
avoided if you rep±ace the wire hose
clamp used on many veHicles with a
worm-type clamp any time you pull
oF a Hose.
A
wire c±aMp should be used only
once on a radiator hose² It leaves deep
grooves in the hose and it's hard to get
back on tight enough to hold³
The
worM´type is wider and can be tightµ
ened so the hose won't leak²
