EQUIPMENT CONDITION
Engine mounted on repair stand (para. 4-9).
a. Rocker Lever Housing Covers Removal
NOTE
l
Rocker lever housing covers are mounted with screw-assembled
washers on late model engines.
l
All rocker lever housing covers are removed the same way. This
task covers removal of center housing cover.
1.
Remove five screws (2), washers (3), rocker lever housing cover (1), and gasket (4) from rocker lever
housing (5). Discard gasket (4).
2.
Clean gasket remains from mating surfaces of rocker lever housing cover (1), rocker lever housing (5),
and washers (3).
b. Rocker Lever Housing and Push Tubes Removal
1.
Loosen eighteen locknuts (14) on rocker levers (16).
2.
Turn eighteen adjusting screws (15) on rocker levers (16) two turns.
3.
Remove six screws (7), two lifting eyes (8), and upper radiator support bracket (6) from rocker lever
housings (5).
NOTE
l
Rocker lever housings are mounted with screw-assembled
washers for late model engines.
l
Tag rocker lever housings for installation.
4.
Remove twelve screws (9), washers (10), three rocker lever housings (5), and gaskets (13) from
cylinder heads (11). Discard gaskets (13) and clean gasket remains from rocker lever housing (5)
and cylinder head (11) mating surfaces.
