EQUlPMENT CONDITION
• Front axle differential drained (LO 9-2320-272-12).
• Front axle removed (para. 4-99).
• Front axle shafts removed (para. 3-154).
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic.
• Keep fire extinguisher nearby when using
drycleaning solvent, Do not use near open flame.
• All personnel must stand clear during lifting
NOTE
Front and rear axle carrier differentials are replaced the name way.
This procedure covers replacement of front axle carrier differential,

Remove eighteen nuts (3) and washers (4) from carrier differential (2) and axle houring (5).
2.
Attach chain and lifting device to carrier differential (2).
WARNING
All personnel must stand clear during lifting operations. A snapped
cable, or swinging or shifting load, may result in injury to personnel.
CAUTION
When lifting carrier differential out of axle housing, use care
not to damage mounting studs. Direct assistant to guide carrier
differential out of axle housing.

Remove carrier differential (2) from axle housing (6).
b. Cleaning and Inspection
WARNING
• Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near an
open flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when
solvents are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear
protective clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved
container. Failure to do this may result in injury to personnel
and/or damage to equipment.
• Eyeshields must be worn when cleaning with a wire brush.
Flying rust and metal particles may cause injury to personnel.
