a.
Inspection I
1.
Visually inspect the main frame rails for damage or distortion. Vehicles with damaged frame rails
should be sent to GS maintenance for repair.
NOTE
Crossmember with end bracket weld breaks of more than 1 in.
(2.54 cm) must be replaced. Any crack pr tear in the
crossmember longer than 1-3/4 in. (4.4 cm) requires
replacement of the crossmember.

Inspect the crossmember (1) for bends, cracks, or broken end bracket welds. Bent crossmembers (1)
should be straightened. Small cracks or tears should be stop-drilled and welded.
b.
Repair
NOTE
Heli-Arc, MIG, or TIG welding equipment may be used,
provided the electrode used has a 70,000 (482,650 kPa) psi
tensile strength.
Avoid heat buildup in the rubber bushing areas toward the
outer edges of the crossmember.
For welding instruction refer to TM 9-237.
1.
Center a 15-1/2-in. (39.4 cm) metal strip (3) between the end brackets (2), flat against bottom edges of
the crossmember (1). Weld the metal strip (3) to the crossmember (1).
2.
Spot paint welded area. (Refer to TM 43-0139).
