8-20. STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENT

1.

Install steering gear (12) on frame (11) with three washers (81, lockwashers (91, and capscrews (10).

Tighten capscrews (10) to 54-66 lb-R (73-89 N-m).

2.

Align hole in yoke (3) with notch on steering gear splines (7) and slide intermediate shaft (4) on

steering gear splines (7).

3.

Install intermediate shaft (4) to steering gear splines (71 with washer

(2),

capscrew (61, washer (21,

and locknut (1). Tighten locknut (1) to 40-50 lb-R (54-68 N-ml.

4.

Connect two power steering lines (5) to steering gear (12).

NOTE

Ensure front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.

5.

Install pitman arm (14) on shaft (13) with lockwasher (151 and nut (16). Tighten nut (161 to

185 lb-R (251 N-m).
