Cut a piece of telephone cable long enough to reach from the radio to the desired
height of the antenna.

Strip the insulation from one end of the two cable wires. Untwist the wires enough
to splice one wire to a bare section of the radiating element and the other wire to a
bare section of the reflectors.
10.
Toss the suspension rope or wire over the limb of a tree, and pull the antenna up to
the desired height.

If communications are not satisfactory, reverse the connections at the radio.

11-22. INTERCOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM FIELD EXPEDIENT
General Information:
This procedure gives instructions for constructing field expedient intercoms.
Limitations:
If the AM-1780 is non-operational, the radio systems will not be usable through the
intercom.

Cable, telephone, WD-1/TT, 10 to l5-foot length.
Other Option(s):
Replace with Soviet R-124 intercom. (Refer to paragraph 11-28).
CAUTION
Do not crank or ring the field telephone because damage
could occur to the AM-1780 and/or the entire AN/VIC-1
system.
