CLEANING
Scope
1.
Procedures for cleaning will be the same for a great percentage of parts and components. To avoid
repetition of instructions, the general procedures for cleaning are detailed below. See TM 9-247 for
additional information pertaining to cleaning.
2.
Clean all parts before inspection, after repair, and before assembly.
3.
Hands should be kept free of grease which can collect dust and dirt.
4.
After cleaning, all parts should be covered or wrapped in plastic to protect them from dust and dirt.
Castings
WARNING
Cleaning solvent is TOXIC and flammable. Wear protective goggles and gloves; use only
in a well-ventilated area; avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothes; and do not breathe
vapors. Keep away from heat or flame. Never smoke when using cleaning solvent. Failure
to comply may result in injury, illness, or death to personnel.
1.
Clean inner and outer surfaces of casting and all areas subject to oil and grease with cleaning solvent.
2.
Remove sludge and gum deposits from castings with a stiff brush.
