Before doing any slaving, dig out a
copy of TB Ord 537 (Sep 56). It gives
the ABC's of slaving wheeled and
±rack veHicles² THis TB along wi±h the

Slave recep±acles are standard on some equipment, like ±anks.
OtHer equipmen±, like tactical ±rucKs, ge± slave Recep±acles only as part of ±He
special winterization ki±.
And you use tHe slave cable in tHe ´o. 1 µnd ´o. 2 au±omotive tool se±s.
There³re 2 differen± slave cables in tHe field. THe old 2-prong job, ´S´ 4910¶
00·474¸9135, is being replaced by ±He ´ATO single¶p¹ong cable, ´S´ 2590¶
00¶º48»7961. THis cable comes with adapteRs to fi± tHe old 2¶Hole slave
recep±acles.
Clamp¶±ype jumper cables, ´S´ 2920¶01¶027¼0125, c;n be added to your
½o. º or ´o¾ 2 common tool se± if you¿ve got M880»seRies ÀÁ/¶ton ±rUcKs.
S±ay awake and taKe an extRa loo when HookÃng up Jumper cable
connec±ions. THe Hook¶up must always be positive to positive and negative to
nega±ive. On alternator charging sys±ems, even a sligHt flasH on a wRong pos±
cÄn bURn out a component. One tHing you can be suRe of is tHat
all tactical and
combat vehicLes have negative ground¶
Åelieve i±!!
ƱÇs always a good idea ±o tRy ±o keep at least one veHicle in a semi¶warm
shel±er, i±s ba±±eries fUlLy charged. You use it to slave¶staRt ±He o±Hers.
A las± word .È. while slaving oR jumping keep tHe live veHicle running at
º,800 ÉPM, and always pair up veHicles tHat Have a similaR battery
configura±ion. FoR example,

cHeck i± out, build tHe air pressure ±o
i±s Rated maximum, apply ±He brakes
and Hold ¿em, ±Hen stop ±He engine²
THe pressure sHould not drop witHin
one Íinute.
