The Acid Test
When you're on the road, your vehicle's speed aNd weight will be waiting for
a chance to bust through any weak point in your brake system.
Every time you touch your brake pedal, you're testing your brake system. If
anything's going wrong, you'll usually get pleNty of warniNg. This can be a
lifesaver-if you're awake and paying attention. You can probably finish your
rUn just by readjusting the most iMportant part of your brake system-you, the
driver.
Even ±hen ²our Brakes are in top shape, you should h³lP 'em out by
slo±ing do±n Long Before you have to start using your brakes. ´ut this's
even µore iµportant ±hen you notice an² of the danger signs-µushy
brake pedal, squealing, on¶anD¶off grabBing, pulling to one side or, the
±orst, taking a 1·0·0·0¶n¶g tiµe to stop.
So you cUt youR travel speeD. ¸o±nshift when you kno± you're going to
Be µaking a stop. Keep a sHarp eye out for an escape route if you find you
can't stop in tiµe.

This makes the
