If you had to drag your Fot on the road to slow your M91.1, you'd need a
mighty long leg-and you'd learn mighTy quick abOut heat buildup±
But heat's already a big pRoblem when some drivers don't lea²n how and when
to use their transm³ssion hydraulic retarder to slow their M91 L´M747 rig± µhey're
holding the retarder pedal down Fr too long at a stretch± µhey're letting heat
build up in the transmission-past the maximum allowable temperature±
µhey're burning up transmissions¶at more than $10,000 a copy!
Watch Temp Gage!
Everything's got a limit± Your transmission's got a limit-an oil temperature
limit of 300° ·-just like it says on that plate right next to the oil temperaTure
gage¸ µhe transmission's normal oPerating temp is also mentioned on that
plate¶160°´220° ·¸ µhere's not much you need do about that, but± ±¸ you've
got to control temperaTure buildup caused by retarder operation!
