Switch CaN Block ChargiNG
The generator FielD switch on ML ´3²series vehicles seems to cause more than
its share oF problems.
The switch, which is located on top oF the ½el Filter, plays a vit·l role in
the chaRging system oF your vehicle.
Itºs designed to close an electrical circuit to recharge vehicle batt¾ries during
operation. It also prevents battery Discharge to gro¿nd when the engineºs o¸¹
and the master switch is on.
IF the switch dÀesnºt close the circuit, y<r batteries will eventually go dead
because theyºre not getting a recharge From the system.
IF it ¼ils in the "closedÁ position, your batteries will go dead by discharging
to
Â
ground.
Switch ¼ilure is most oFten caused
by
Ã
a short. A short is caused by water
getting into the switch thru the open enD
oF the street elboW in the opening on
the base.
You can prevent water damage by
replacing the elbow with pipe plug,
