The beARIngs Are hARdeR thAn the metaL of the upper spIndLe, whIch means they' re
weArIng at the soFer metAL. PLus, the Lube curRentLy used isn't doing the job²

skirt. ºf the gAp is Less than 1/8-inch»
or if the end coNnectors ARe to¹chIng the
skirt¼siNg out to your mechaNic.

Loose or missing idLeR hub nuts. ºf N¹ts
Are Loose oR m¾ssing, don't operAte Again
until yo¹r mechAnic has checked out the
hub And Arm.

seÁIAnnuaL service¼oR whenever the
cRews repoRt Loose or mIssing Nuts or
toO LIttle rOom betweeN end coNnectoRs
ANd skIrts.

with the correct track tension applied,
eyeball the retainer anD iDler arm where
they join. If there's metal-to±metAl con²
tact at the top anD a gap at the Bottom,
the upper spinDle is Bent³ Replace the
iDler arm.

If you can insert

5/32-in ´llen
wrench (NSN 5120µ¶-198±5392 Fom
the No· 1 CoMon toOl set) into The gap
Between the retainer anD the iDler arm
at the Font, the uppEr spinDle anD Bear²
ings are wo¸. Replace the iDler

Change the grease you use when
lubing the ¹L.
ºrom now on, use
General Pur»se ´ircra¼ Gr½se, ¹I¾²
G±81322, ¿r all applications calling ¿r
G´´. NSN 9150-¶-145-0268 gets a
5±lB can anD 9150µ¶À935À5851 gets a
35Álb can.

Just pump in enough of the new stuÂ
to push out all of the olD. If you canÃt
get the new grease ¿r a while, use the
olD stuÄ more oÅnÆlike weekly ¿r the
iDler upper spinDle Bearings.
