Drivers, it's easy to frget about the
parkIng and spring brakes on yoUr
5-
ton truck until you need 'em. But when
you need 'em, you need 'em, and that's
no time to be without 'em.
That's why it's so IMportant that you
check both brakes ±efre you leave the
motor pool. YoUr ²uck is

either brake is not worKing right.
Parking Brake Check

you do:
³ake sure no one or anythINg is
in µoNt oF the truck.
ShI¶ the traNs·r to high raNge.

PUlL the ²ansM¸ssioN sh¸¶ lever to
neUtral.
StArt the engine and let it i¹lE to build up the

pressure to

brake pe¹al. »ush iN oN the spring
brake override button on the instrument
panel, and then set the park¼ng brake
lever.
½elease the service brake pedal.
Don't rev the engine¾ The vehicle
shouldn't move. ºF the ¿ruck moVes,
shi¶ to neutral. TuÀ the Knob on tOp
oF the parking braKe Áever to the Âight.
That increases braking power. TÃy the
brake test again. ºF the brake doesn't
hol¹ a¶er adjustment, repÄrt it.
s±ring BRake Check
To check the spring brakes, puÁÁ
out the spring brake oÅeRride button
and shiFt the tRansÆÇssion to neutral.
½elease the parking brake lever and
gently raise the valve lever at the base
oF the parking brake handle fr the
spRing brake. You should hear
a
hiss-
Ing oUt oF the air tanks as the spring
brakes engage.
Shi¶ the transmissIon in
1-5
(D½ÈÉÊ). Gradually rev the engine to
³00´1,000
½Ë³, but don't exceed
1,000.
The brake should hold¾
ºF the trÌck moves, park the Rig and

call your mechanic.
