Spindle Sleeve Scouring Snafu
T
oss those scouring pads you've been using to clean the sLeeve bearings on
your Black HawK's main rotor spindle.
You± re rubbing the outer diameter of the bearing inner race raw with those pads²
Use only cleaner, NSN 6850-01-239-0571, and water to clean the beaRi³g
suRface. The cleaner NSN is not on the AF, so order on a
DD
Form 1348-6
using ´IC S9G.
Then visually insPect the bearing µr Pitting² If you ¶nd pitting, use sa·ty
wire and a magnifying glass to deteRmine the diameter of the Pits. ´eplace the
sPindle if there are 5 or more pits of 0¸030 inch diameter or greater in a
12
inch
diameter circle, or if one or more pits is larger than 0.050 inch in diameter¹
ºf there is any doubt about the size of the pits, be on the sa· side and replace
the spindle.
Make a note until TasK 16 of TM 55-1520»237-23-7 is updated. Maintenance
Inµrmation Message UH-60-89-MIM-02 has the word.

he ¼½ connector in the ¼S 437 a¾ticle about monitoring the accuracy of
the N 1 gas producer tachometer on T53 engines should be NSN 5935-01-255-
7736. The Jetcal analyzer used with the adapter cable sho¿ld be model
BH½ 12JB¹ If you'd rather buy than maKe an adapter, order NSN 4920À00-
715À4661.
