Dear EditoR
We were running through lots of LCSS bulbs for the test results
display's lamp driver until we discovered the culprit
-
orro±ion.
Corrosion in the lamp socket
was limiting the current that
could get to the bulb² To com-
pensate, we would tu³ up the
lamp driver´s resistor to get
more light. µhe extra current
would worsen the corrosion and
bu³ up the bulb fast.
Once we took apa¶ the socket
and cleaned out the corrosion
with a stiF· non¸metal/l¹ brush·
we began to get the full life out
of the bulbs.
Bulb life can also be aFected
by the bulb's alignmentº If the
bulb »lament ¼sn´t ¼n a straight
line with the socket and parallel
to the electronics rack½ the
socket ¼s bad and needs to be
replaced.
