14-48. HAND AIRBRAKE KIT REPLACEMENT
THIS TASK COVERS:
a. Removal
b. Installation
INITIAL SETUP
APPLICABLE MODELS
EQUIPMENT CONDITION
All (except M815, M818, M819)
• Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-260-10).
MATERIALS/PARTS
• Hood raised and secured (TM 9-2320-260-10).
• Air reservoirs drained (TM 9-2320-260-10).
Three locknuts
Antiseize tape (Appendix C, Item 30)

Do not disconnect air lines before draining air
reservoirs.

Do not disconnect air lines before draining air reservoirs. Small
parts under pressure may shoot out with high velocity, causing
injury to personnel.
Disconnect air lines (9) and (10) from two adapters (8).
Remove two locknuts (1), bracket (2), control valve (7), and strap (3) from steering column (4).
Discard locknuts (1).
Remove two adapters (8) from control valve (7).
Remove air line (9) and elbow (5) from fitting (6).
Disconnect air line (10) from union (18).
Remove locknut (13), screw (16), two clamps (14), and air line (17) horn bracket (15). Discard locknut (13).
Disconnect air line (17) from union (18) and elbow (12).
Remove elbow (12) from check valve (11).
NOTE
Assistant will help with step 9.
Remove nut (20) and union (18) from firewall (19).

NOTE
Assistant will help with step 1.
Apply antiseize tape to male threads of adapters (8), elbows (5) and (12), and union (18).
Install union (18) on firewall (19) with nut (20).
Install elbow (12) on check valve (11).
Connect air line (17) on elbow (12) and union (18).
Install air line (17) on bracket (15) with two clamps (14), screw (16), and new locknut (13).
