performed before running any other STE/ICE-R test.
COMPRESSION UNBALANCE TEST

NOTE
The compression unbalance test takes
approximately 15 seconds to run.
RUN COMPRESSION UNBALANCE TEST:
• Install pulse tachometer (TK item 34) with transducer
cable W4 (see GO 3).
• Shut off fuel supply so that engine will not start.
• Dial 14 into TEST SELECT switches and press TEST.
• Wait for prompting message GO to appear.
• Does VTM display GO?
• Proceed to next page.
CAUTION
Do not perform more than two compression
unbalance tests in a row, or vehicle
batteries may be discharged. If possible,
engine should be at operating temperature
when performing compression unbalance
test.
• When GO appears, crank engine.
• Just after cranking, VTM display should change to
four dashes indicating VTM is accepting data.
• Stop cranking when VTM displays OFF or E013
• Wait for a number to be displayed.
Does VTM display a number?

• Rerun compression unbalance test.
• If unbalance test is still out of
limits, refer to Mechanical System
Troubleshooting Index (WP 0007 00)
to diagnose engine.
• Does VTM display fail?
YES
• VTM displays E013. This may
indicate discharged batteries or low
cranking speed. Also, the operator
may have stopped cranking during
test. Correct problem and repeat test.
