CAUTION
Equipment operation is allowable with minor leaks (Class I or II). Of course, consideration must be
given to the fluid capacity in the item/system being-checked/inspected. When in doubt, notify your
supervisor.

PROCEDURE Check for and have repaired,
filled or adjusted as needed.
NOTE
Perform weekly as well as before PMCS if:
a. You are the assigned operator but have not
operated vehicle since last weekly.
b. You are operating vehicle for the first time.
MAKE THE FOLLOWING WALK AROUND
CHECKS:
Exterior of Vehicle.
a. Check for evidence of fuel leakage on or
under semitrailer.
b. Check fire extinguishers for proper gage
readings and check security of mounting brackets.
Red button should be down.
Tires and Wheels.
a. Inspect tires for unusual wear or damage.
b. Check for proper air pressure.
Hard road surfaces – 60 psi.
Cross country and sand – 40 psi.
c. Inspect wheels for cracks or other damage.
Check tightness of wheel nuts.
Towing Connections.
a. Inspect bolt-on kingpin or upper coupler
(kingpin) plate for damage or loose mounting bolts.
b. Visually inspect for obvious cracked or
broken welds along upper coupler (kingpin) plate.
c. Connect towing vehicle air lines to couplings
on semitrailer. With towing vehicle engine running,
check air lines and couplings for air leaks.
d. Connect towing vehicle electrical line to
receptacle on semitrailer. Check all lights for
damage. Check that all lights are operating. if not
operating, check tightness of connection at
receptacle. if tight, have unit maintenance test and
repair lights. Check electrical line for damage.

Ready/Available It
Any fuel leakage is evident.
Fire extinguisher missing. Red
button is up.
Tires have damage which
could result in tire failure.
Wheel damaged or wheel nuts
missing.
Bolt-on kingpin or upper cou-
pler (kingpin) plate damaged,
or mounting bolts loose.
Any welds are cracked
or
broken.
Air leaks are evident.
Turn signal and stop lights not
operating. Towing vehicle in-
tervehicular cable is damaged
(cuts, cracks, broken wires,
etc.).
