CHECK FOR LEAKS COOLANT TEMPERATURE
.
- Check vehicle for oil, fuel, and coolant leaks.
- Repair any leaks.
- Start engine.
- Set engine speed from 1000 to 1200 rpm.
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature
while monitoring vehicle temperature water gage.
This may take from 30 to 45 minutes for some vehicles.
If VTM does not display engine
rpm, check: cables and
connectors; and pulse
tachometer. Replace as
needed.

Does vehicle water temperature read from 170 to 185°F
(77 to 85°C) after normal warmup period?

Go to paragraph 3-3 to
troubleshoot engine and
cooling system for high
temperature. If no problems
are found, go to NG 32 (Figure
3, sheet 29).

After completing repair, rerun GO CHAIN tests to
verify problem has been fixed and that no other
problems exist. Start at GO 2 (Figure 2, sheet 8) if
VTM is already connected. Otherwise start at GO 1
(Figure 2, sheet 1).
