NOTE

Readings must be within limits given in table 4-61.

The letter L indicates a loose fit.

If readings are

not within given limits, throw away part and get

a new one.

Measure diameter of pressure relief valve plunger (1).

Measure inside diameter of pressure relief valve bore (2) in filter head (3).

Get a new filter head if diameter is not within given limits.

Measure fit of valve plunger (1) in bore (2). Get a new plunger or plunger

and filter head (3) if loose fit is not within given limits.

Measure free length, spring load, maximum solid height, and diameter of

pressure relief valve spring (4) for plunger (1) type valve and for ball (5)

type valve.

Check threads in filter head (3) for damage.

Repair threads having minor

damage with tap. Get a new filter head if damaged threads cannot be repaired

with tap.

Check pipe plug (6), relief plug (7), two sleeve nuts (8), and two bleeder

valves (9) for damaged threads.

Repair threads having minor damage with

file. Get new parts if damaged threads cannot be repaired with file.
