At first it looks like you're pretty sharp
because you can save 2 or 3 minutes con-
neCting these cables to their receptacles±
But when you burn up your tank you
don't feel sh²rp at a³l´

This happens because some timeµsav¶
ing mechanic or crewman hacksaws tHe
meta³ nuts off both starter ground and

Sure· this makes the cable ends go into
the receptacles easier· even if the power
plant has not been raised off its mounts
and you have to reach down´ A³sO· there
is no chance you'³l crossµthread the nuts
when there are no nuts±
But here's where this happy¸ picture
starts to turn sad± WitH no nuts to hold
them· the star¹er e³ectrical contacts canº
and do»vibrate out of their receptac³es´
So wha¼ happens then?
Nothing happens because there's no
current in the starter ³ine cab³es whi³e the
engine is running±

There's no need for Hacksawing off tHe
nuts if you inÈta³³ or remove the starter
cab³e ³ines on³y when you have tHe power
p³ant raised about 12 inches aÅove the
mounts±
So· if the nuts have been Ƴost''· get
new ones put on· to give you a vibrationÉ
proof connection±
