The self-purging particLe separator
on youR Huey (UH±1) and Cobra (AH²
lG)
does a good job of keeping dir³
from getting into t´e engine inLet. But
it does need a LittLe ´eLp.
Fact is, there's an air cLeaner in the
Lower haLf of t´e separator t´at many
mechs
are
overlooking
during
t´e
pReventive maintenance periodic.
To get to the air cleaner, make with
the wrenc´es, man!
Once you get t´e air cLeaner off
you'Ll noticE diRt in the center vortex.
The dirt cLings to t´e fiLteR due to oiL
Leaking from nose case seaLs, or from
transmission inPut quiLL seaLs. Wit´
the separator µLugged, sand and Dust
are no Longer purged. The dirt enters
t´e engin¶ and erodes coM·ressor
com¸onents.
That's
one
reason
some
T±53
engines fall short of t´e ¹800º´r time
before oveR´aul.
So, make wit´ the warm water and
soap» ¼ix

because it will damage the bonded
