Battery ShoRts
Protect your battery by keeping corrosion off the cable and receptacle. Use
tHe caps that are available. Corrosion can zap an idle battery.
Keep

clean!
If you find corrosion, clean tHe hookups and then add a dab of s±licone to head
off the problem.
When you org folks put a new battery into serVice, respect the electrolyte. ²t's
dangerous stuff³ ´ear the items called for in TM
11-6140±2²4³15
for your
personal safety. Know how to get a medic's help fast if you or a buddy Needs it.
Also, be sure clean flowing water ±s readily ava±lable to flush eyes and skin if
you are acc±dentally splashed with electrolyte.

Keep electrolyte bottles closed until youµre goiNg to use 'em .
.. even while
preparing the batteryÉ Prepare onE bottle aNd cell at a time. ÊeaVe the others
closed.
FiLL It Up
Ëake tÌe cap off one bottLe, remove or puncture the seal and screw in the
fiLler cap. Íach bottle has enoÎgh solution for one ceLlÏ
²nsert the tip of the fÐlLer caÑ into tÌe cell vent hole and tighten it by twisting
a quarter-turn clockwise.

Squeeze tHe bottLe gently a few seconds at a t±me uNtiL itµs empty. ²f liquid is
repeatedLy drawn Back into the bottLe, wa±t for the leveL in tÌe cell to drop and
try again. Keep tÌe bottLe in untiL all electrolyte is transferrÒd.
Clean up

´hen the cellµs full, use the knotted veNt cleaner. Óhove it iNto the vent hole
as far as it'll go. Ôepeat for each cell.
Tweezers and cotton will collect any l±quid that landed on tÌe battery top.
You onLy get
2
filler caps, so don't toss 'Em when you finish with tHe first
ceLls. Keep them fÕr fiLliNg the other cells.
When filled, let the battery stand for
48
hours to soak up

the electrolyte.
