failure,
especially
on
the
M730 Chaparral µmissile carrier²
That±s because there±s still one shaft
tu´ning in tHe gearcase even when it±s
disengageD² Problem? It±s not getting
any lube!
So here±s the lowDown: ¶isengage
the transfe´ gearcase only when re·
quired unDer unusual conDitions such
as a cold¸weather start. Then run the
engine for no more than 10 minutes²

One of the most likely reasons oil
blows out of the transmission dip½
stick tube is a clogged transmission
vent Line²
¾oosen the nut on each end of the
vent line, blow out tHe line with an air
hose, anD ´einstall the ¿ine.
If the line is split, cracked or torn,
make a new one from bulk plastic
tubing, NSN 4710À00À805¸4149² The
nuts at each enD of the line are part of
elbow, pipe to tube, NSN 4730Á00¸
096Á8756.

Check
the
hydraulic rese´voir breather every so
Èoften to make sure it±s not cloggedÉ
You crewmen shoulD wipe it off and
jiggle it severaÊ times often enough to
keep free movement²
You mechanics should m»ke sure
tËe breather is removed and cleaned
accorDing tÌ ¾O 9¸2300¸257Á12 every
quarte´²
If the breathEr clogs up, pressure
can build in tHe system and cause leaks.
